Taj Mahal 1989 – Review Netflix

Taj Mahal 1989 – 7 Episodes | Netflix – 8/10

Created like non commercial cinema, set in 1989 in Lucknow, the hub of poetry and University politics. We share the lives of a couple of students and professors to understand what Love is.. Jismani ya Ruhani (Physical or Psyche).

Professor of Philosophy, Akhtar Baig (Neeraj Kabi) and Physics Professor, Sarita (Geetanjali Kulkarni) have been married for many years and have slipped into complacency. While Akhtar doesn’t notice anything wrong, Sarita feels no thrill and nothing in common anymore.

Love is.. A Mutating virus.

True Philosopher Sudhakar (Danish Hussain), Gold medalist, who shuns an upper class life to be a tailor and has accepted Mumtaz (Sheeba Chaddha) who now sells vegetables is the most romantic pair who spout poetry and still blush for each other.

Love is… When you trust someone and miss them

The clear headed Rashmi (Anshul Chauhan) looking for great sex pairs up with hottie Dharam (Paras Priyadarshan) who is caught up in power play with college level politics.

Love is.. Sex

Love is..Was & Always will be
Love is..Was & Always will be

Surprise package charming Angad (Anud Singh) philosophises about the awesome poetry on love in Hindi films being good only for/after good sex until he falls hook, line and sinker for communist comrade Mamta (Shirin Sewani), the college Presidential candidate.

Love is… Friendship

Barely even teens, feisty Sunaina (Vasundara Rajput) and Shalin (Mihir Ahuja) elope amid major drama to prove their love for each other to land up in Agra.

Love is.. Not where you look for it.

Every actor who fills the gaps is a master player. There is Binita and her abusive husband, Babbu Bhaiya with his gang of guns and lathi wielding goons and more.

The attention to detail in all scenes of university, small town homes, bus/train station and finally The Taj Mahal from angles not seen before takes you through each episode.

Love is… a trip to Taj Mahal
