Na Maloom Afraad Movie Review:

As I mentioned in one of my earlier reviews that in the last 2-3 years. Pakistani cinema industry (Lollywood) is going through a ‘revival phase’. Nabeel Qureshi’s Na Maloom Afraad (Unidentified Persons) too is a product of this revival.

Na Maloom Afraad features an ensemble cast consisting of heavyweights like Javed Sheikh and  Fahad Mustafa. The film is basically a comedy drama affair that holds your attention from  the very first scene till the last one. Story might not be a great one, but it draws attention to the deteriorating law and order situation in Pakistan’s largest city, Karachi.

There are dialogues that have sarcasm in them. And , one feels the gravity of the situation. Mehwish Hayat’s item number ‘Billi’ (Cat) is fine, but not memorable. Overall, the movies has some good music and cinematography is fine too.

STORY LINE:

The film is about the lives of three people coming from diverse backgrounds. But destiny makes them work together and stand for each other. Shakeel (Javed Sheikh) is a middle age govt clerk. All he has is his wife and younger sister Naina (Urwa Hocane). His world is turned upside down when he learns that the urban development authority has taken a decision to raze his house and build a flyover there. Being a middle class and honest person a family house is all that Shakeel have.

Moon (Mohsin Abbas Haider) is a clever and smart guy wishing to migrate to Dubai. But, he couldn’t make it farther than Karachi. Here he ends up working in a Karachi  electricity board’s call centre. But, this is not the real issue with him. His main problem is a ‘Bhai’ (Term used for Goons in Indian Sub-continent) from whom he has taken lakhs (millions) of money and now can’t payback.

Then there is a guy called Farhan (Fahad Mustafa) , a sales representative by profession earning a meagre 8K per month. Farhan lives as a tenant in Shakeel’s house and allegedly is in love with Naina. He doesn’t have a single problem, but an array of issues tormenting his life. He has lost his job, he will lose his rental room too and more importantly his love of life Naina.

So, how these 3 gentlemen will settle their life amidst the troubles they are facing?

Finally, they make a plan to set a bank on fire during routine riots in Karachi. But before setting a bank on fire they must have their lockers in it.

Will Shakeel be able to save his paternal house? Will Farhan get a job and marry Naina? Will Moon ever be able to go Dubai? Well, they may or they may not.

Watch “Na Maloom Afraad” and you will know it. I am not going to spoil the fun for you.

My Rating And Verdict:

For this film, I too will go by the consensus as Na Maloom Afraad has a rating of 7.9 on IMDB. I have rated it a bit high at 9/10. The film is a bit lengthy with almost 2.5 hours. But, I am sure you will not get bored at any stage. Plus, there are few twists and turns that any cinema lover will love to watch. Not to mention it offers a fair bit of laughing stuff too. So, go and watch this one…

Movie: Wrong No                                                Year: 2015

Wrong No Movie Review:

Pakistani Cinema is going through a “reviving phase” over the past couple of years and Wrong No is the product of this ongoing process. Yasir Nawaz has directed this film in a nice way and it proves out to be an absolute entertainer for the audience. Wrong No has a very simple and common storyline, but still with some great acting, nice music and lots of humor filled dialogues this film appeals to your senses. Wrong No tells the story of a guy called Salman (Nicknamed Sallu) (Danish Taimoor) whose aim in life is to avoid his family profession i.e. becoming a butcher and becoming a big movie star. One day Sallu gets an ultimatum from his father Haji Abba (Javed Shaikh) that if he fails to do something on his own in  one month then he will have to sit with his brothers and father in the butcher market. After this Sallu starts planning to evade this situation where he will have to obey his father.

And finally, while watching News he gets a “life altering” opportunity. He learns about a nawab’s grandson who is coming to Karachi for the first time in his life. The catch in this news was that the face of that royal heir was exactly same as Sallu’s. After this Sallu makes an impeccable plan to “switch” his place with that royal guy named Shehryar. From here the movie becomes more interesting when Shehryar is treated like Sallu while Sallu enjoys the luxurious life of a nawab. Meanwhile, there are 3 guys who have a huge loan to pay to a gangster and their only way out is kidnapping Shehryar and asking his grandfather a huge ransom. The twist comes when the gangster, Shera himself with his gang decides to kidnap Shehryar. The rest you guys needs to see yourself…I am not killing the fun for you..!

My Rating & Verdict of Wrong No:

I rated Wrong No 9/10. The reason is obvious, Wrong No is an entertaining and time pass movie that does fine in all departments. There’s no “novelty” in the story, but still Wrong No keeps you stuck on your sofas for over 2 hours. The acting by the whole cast is of not top quality, but not too bad either. One important thing that I would love to mention about Wrong No, is presence of many humorous lines that a cinema lover will definitely enjoy. Danish Taimoor, Javed Shaikh, Janita Asma, Sohai Ali Abro as well as Danish Nawaz all have done a decent job in Wrong No. The music of this film is good and refreshing I thoroughly enjoyed it while watching the movie.

Conclusion – There’s no harm in watching Wrong No, if you love comedy stuff and nonsense humor..!

Karachi se Lahore – Movie Review

Movie: Karachi se Lahore

Year: 2015

Country of Origin: Pakistan (Urdu, Lollywood)

Languages: Urdu (Mainly), English & Punjabi (Few Dialogues)

Genre: Romance, Comedy, Adventure

Karachi Se Lahore Movie Review:

Karachi se Lahore is a comedy movie with an average story-line, below par acting, few hilarious moments and some awesome music. The film is about the journey of five different people who are going to Lahore from Karachi via road in a bid to stop the wedding of a girl. Zaheem is a young middle class guy who works in a big bank in Karachi. He lives alone in a flat and have a troublesome neighbor Maryam who lives with her father and younger brother. Zaheem has two faithful and fun-loving friends named Moti and Sam.

Zaheem’s life takes a tragic turn when he learns that his girlfriend and lover Ayesha (Ashi) has left him and is going to get married soon. At first, he is distressed and then after “provocation” from his friends Zaheem decides to go Lahore to stop Ashi’s wedding. The twist comes when he didn’t get any flight because of a strike at the airport. Now he has left with only one choice and that is to convinced Maryam to lent her dad’s Jeep to him for going to Lahore. As Maryam’s dad is out of the station Zaheem asks her for help.

Maryam agrees to help Zaheem, but on a condition that she and her brother too will accompany them. Now starts the fun part in Karachi se Lahore, as all five of them travel across the country and reach Lahore finally. I am not telling the details of their “journey” as this is something you guys needs to find out. For me it was the best part of this 150 mins long film. The film ends when Zaheem realizes that he was wrong in thinking that Ayesha (Ashi) was his true love and he didn’t try to stop her marriage. He goes behind Maryam and proposes her which she gladly accepts…..

What To Watch In Karachi Se Lahore:

Apart from melodious music and some great acting by Moti (Yasir Hussain) there’s nothing much to say about Karachi se Lahore. The movie is unwantedly too long. The acting by lead actor Zaheem (Shehzad Shaikh) is really very terrible, it looks as if he is still learning how to act in films. Ayesha Omar is fine and her “out of the context” item song is good to listen.

Veteran actor Rasheed Naz, has played a cameo in Karachi se Lahore and he too is really below par as per his standards. As for the director Wajahat Rauf, he did a fairly decent job except for the fact that he needs to learn that promoting your “sponsors” too much in your film can be a big “turn off” for the audiences. There are unnecessary promotions of HBL and Cornetto in the movie that is really looking very bad.

My Rating & Verdict Of Karachi Se Lahore:

I rated Karachi se Lahore 6 out of 10. The reason is obvious as this film lacks good quality direction and acting. But, still I would recommend it to cinema lovers. The reason is that it shows another face of Pakistan as a country and it’s people. The whole road journey from Karachi to Lahore is a treat to watch and one can see the countryside beauty of that country. All in all if you have spare time and want to see some light cinema with good music then go for Karachi se Lahore.
