Patriotic Movies Based on Real Life Events

For the past few days, I was looking to watch some good movies based on real events. As a result, I ended up watching about half a dozen of them. Since many of them had a patriotic theme, an idea came to my mind; I thought of writing an article on “Patriotic Movies Based on Real Life Events”.

So, I selected three movies – Parmanu, Airlift and Madras Café. The reason I chose these three movies is that they all are very different from each other, covering various perspectives of patriotism.

1. Parmanu – The Story of Pokhran: Starring John Abraham, Diana Penty and Boman Irani in lead roles, the movie tells the story and struggle of how Indian became a nuclear-armed state in the late 1990s. Parmanu ticks all the attributes of what a good cinema should be. John looks incredibly authoritative and dashing in his role. Boman Irani as the Secretary to the PM of India is at his usual best. However, the surprise package for me is Diana Penty’s acting, which is commendable as I have only seen her in glam roles till now.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        I would give the movie 8/10 and recommend all cinema lovers to    watch it at least once.                                                                                                                                                                                                                 
2. Airlift: Released in 2016, Airlift stars Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur in lead roles. The movie is set in the 1990s and tells us the story of the 1990 airlift of Indians from Kuwait during the Gulf War. Akshay plays a successful businessman based out of Kuwait, who helps in rescuing 1,70,000 Indians stranded in that country during the war.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              The movie was a huge success at the Box Office and the acting of the entire cast is praised by critics as well as cinema lovers. The music, screenplay and direction were highly praised too. I would give it a 7/10.                                                                                                                                                                                                                             
3. Madras Café: It is a unique film in the context that it came in 2013, about 27 years after India’s intervention in Sri Lanka’s civil war. A political thriller revolving around the assassination of our former PM, Rajiv Gandhi, the film handles an incredibly sensitive topic with care. Credit must be given to Shoojit Sircar for portraying such a topic in a respectful yet gripping manner on the big screen. All the actors have done really well in the movie. In fact, in my view, Madras Café is John Abraham’s best movie so far.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       The movie has done well at the box office and is widely acclaimed by the critics for its story and direction. I would give it a perfect 8/10 and recommend you all to watch it for sure.
