Mere Paas Tum Ho – Synopsis

Mere Paas Tum Ho is a highly popular drama series starring Humayun Saeed, Ayeza Khan, and Adnan Siddiqui in lead roles. It went on air in August 2019 and since then it has been in the limelight due to its impressive star cast and promos. Director Nadeem Baig and Writer Khalil ur Rehman have made their best efforts in unconventionally portraying a conventional story. However, it miserably fails in convincing people at some stages.

The storyline and the plot are old but showcased with the newness of strong dialogues and brilliant performances by the lead actors including the very cute child actor Shees Sajji Gul.

Mere Paas Tum Ho – Plot

Danish and Mehwish, once college lovers are now married for 7 years and they have a 6-year-old son named Rumi. Danish, a simple and honest government employee follows the principles set by his father. His nominal salary fails to provide his gorgeous wife Mehwish, the lifestyle and standards which she desires. However, Danish totally gives up in front of her demands and tries to fulfill all that she wishes for the sake of crazy, mad, and deep love he has for her. He feels if he has her, he has everything.

On the other side for Mehwish, “only love” is not enough to lead a happy and satisfying life. She is dominating, cold-hearted, and self-obsessed. Influenced by her rich college friend Anushey’s lifestyle and carefree extravagant nature. Her longing for not having a luxurious life deepens more and more inside her. One day, while shopping and having lunch with Anushey, she happens to meet Shehwar, who turns out to be Anushey’s brother Aamir’s boss.

From the first meeting, he sets his eyes on Mehwish and starts complimenting her on her beauty and poise. Attracted by Shehwar’s personality and financial status, Mehwish doesn’t mind any attention paid to her by him. Moreover, her confidence boosts when her neighbor Monty tells her that she and Danish are a mismatch. A beautiful girl like her deserves so much more than what she has.

Danish’s first impression of Shehwar was very clear yet he took a leap of faith and trusted Shehwar’s intentions of being a loner but a nice man. Danish pitied his unhappy marital status and expressed how happy he was to have Mehwish in his life. However, somewhere he was still doubtful of how Shehwar looked at his wife and how Mehwish never complained about it. As the interactions grow between Mehwish and Shehwar, the relationship between Danish and Mehwish begins getting bitter. Danish doesn’t like Shehwar’s generosity in giving them expensive gifts and offering Mehwish, a job and salary above her competency. Yet, Danish gives up in front of Mehwish and allows her to do all that she wants for the sake of love and keeping up the marriage.

Influenced and convinced of her unhappy life, Mehwish decides to move on with Shehwar and breaking up her marriage with Danish. She doesn’t think twice before leaving her son and Danish. She goes on to the extent of demanding divorce to have a better life. Danish divorces Mehwish and they both move on in life towards their separate paths.

Mehwish shifts at Shehwar’s house and starts enjoying the luxurious life and trips abroad. Danish sells his apartment and invests money in the share market in an effort of becoming rich. He sends Rumi to boarding for his studies. However, his academic grades fall badly and school principal summons Danish to come and look into it. At the boarding school, Danish meets Ms. Haniya, Rumi’s class teacher. Haniya turns out to be the daughter of Danish’s close friend and colleague at work. Haniya’s father left a diary that mentioned Danish and his life. Haniya reads it and feels highly empathetic and struck by Danish’s life story. She assures Danish that she will personally take care of Rumi. Eventually, coming closer to Rumi and Danish and falling for Danish for his simplicity and good character.

Life takes another turn when Shehwar’s wife Maham comes back from America and throws Mehwish out of the house. Danish gets lucky in the share market. With the help of his college friends Salman and Ayesha, he sets up an office in the PSE, rents a bungalow, and buys a big car. Mehwish realizes her mistake and starts making efforts to apologize to Danish and be forgiven for all that she has done.

Will Danish forgive her? Will they get back together again? The story entangles the characters as it takes its pace and it gets interesting to see what happens at the end.

Rating and Verdict

I will rate Mere Paas Tum Ho 8.5 out of 10 for power-packed performances, brilliant execution of the characters, high voltage drama, and great music. However, the Pakistani dramas are stereotyped and follow the male-dominant plots. The climax could have been much better and positive. It leaves the audience with a feeling of disappointment and dissatisfaction. Yet, it succeeds in keeping the audience glued till the end and creates a sense of excitement and emotional storm within.
