Bulbbul (Hindi) – Netflix Original Movie – 6/10
A Twisted Tale
Set in the Bengal of the 19th century, we see zamindari up close yet within the walls of a beautiful haveli and temple in ruins.
Rahul Bose as Indranil, the zamindar brings home a child bride. Bulbbul meets the younger brother, Satya and a deranged twin, Mahinder, married to a typical greedy Binodini (Paoli Dam) always wanting more.
The child bride and the kid brother grow up on stories of a tree dwelling witch. They carry on writing the tales till the older brother, jealous of their friendship, sends him away to London to study law.
Lots happens here at the haveli and five years later on return, Satya (Avinash Tiwary) discovers his friend is a sensual zamindarni (Tripti Dimri) ruling wisely, with a mysterious doctor (Parambrata Chattopadhyay) in attendance, who seems to have replaced him as a friend.
The chudail now is real and attacks, selectively though.. creating havoc and gory death. Pretty much a twisted hero actually!
The colour red and the din is a little chaotic. The movie is all things Bengali.. missing the finesse of fine cinema by a mile!
