As soon as I watched the trailer of Jumanji: The Next Level, I was so excited to watch this movie. Back in 2017, my wife and I loved Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle too much. It was a fabulous movie with all the ingredients of a good entertaining cinema. Unfortunately, Jumanji: The Next Level couldn’t take our expectations to the next level. So, let’s delve into the details.
It’s back to normal life for Fridge, Bethany, and Martha. The trio is in touch with each other and is doing fairly good in their lives, however, Spencer is missing something in life. His relationship with Martha has hit a low, and he is looking to revive it. Spencer goes to his childhood home and meets his irritable grandfather (Eddie Gilpin), who in a way inspires him to take a radical step to revive his life.
Somehow, Spencer ends up entering the broken Jumanji game. The next day, when he fails to show up at a get-together, his friends try to figure out about him. The trio being convinced that Spencer has gone back to the Jumanji decides to bring back their friend from the fatal video game. Fridge and Martha successfully go into the game while for some odd reasons Bethany couldn’t make it to Jumanji this time. But strangely, Eddie along with his frenemy Milo Walker ends up entering the video game and assuming the avatars of Dr. Smolder Bravestone and Franklin “Mouse” Finbar respectively.
Soon, all four avatars meet each other and try to figure out where Spencer is in the game. They meet Nigel Billingsley, the game’s non-playing character who acts as a guide. He tells them about the threat that Jumanji is facing from a warlord, Jurgen the Brutal. Nigel gives them the task of reclaiming a magic necklace called the ‘Falcon’s Heart’ from Jurgen the Brutal and show it to the sun. If they fail to do this, the whole Jumanji would be in peril. So, where’s Spencer in Jumanji? Will Bethany be able to reach Jumanji? How the quartet reclaim the Falcon’s Heart? I am not going to give more spoilers here. The movie is running in theaters and you can watch it to know all the answers.
My Verdict & Rating of Jumanji: The Next Level
As I said in the opening lines of this article that I was having high hopes from this film but I am a bit disappointed. So, I am giving this movie 7 out of 10. The reasons are many, such as I felt that the makers decided to make this movie because they had to. But the most disappointing reason was the weak and less exciting plot. Compared to this part, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle was definitely a notch up.
