Bobby Deol starrer Class of 83 is a film of the 80’s from S Hussain Zaidi’s book with the same name. The film captures the combination of politics and the Mumbai police.

The Review

Class of 83 begins with the scenes in 1983 from the training camp of the police department, where Vijay Singh (Bobby Deol) discovers the potential of the five back-benchers Surve, Jadhav, Shukla, Varde and Aslam. He is posted at the Nashik’s police training academy as the dean as a punishment posting.

These cadets from the Class of 83 swiftly take the role of cops on the grounds of Bombay. With their sturdy and quick actions they become the thorns for the greedy netas and the corrupt cops. With easy money their way these 5 cops find themselves in the filthy lucre.

Though the film is a fiction, the director has brilliantly captured the illicit money laundering, cotton mills and their ‘mazdoor’ problems and their emotions with gritty and realistic characteristics.

The backdrop of the Class of 83 covers the smartly executed actions by the policemen, their strategies and the actions taken to execute the escalating Punjab terrorism and the AK47s which were finding their way to Mumbai.

The Verdict & Rating

The film just does not catch your attention as the flashbacks make it difficult to understand, where the plot is leading. The film had a lot of potential in its storyline, but it feels unmistakably inert. I am giving it 07 out of 10.
