America in Delhi.. the Uni, Cafeteria, Dorms, Band, even a scene on the Basketball court. The foul language used, the clothes worn by the students, drug abuse shown are all in the superlative yet true and what's really happening.. Awesomely directed by Richie Mehta, each scene has been shot with intensity and the cinematography, editing, casting and costumes too deserve applause.
The touching and soul stirring moments revolve around young Dilsher whose dad sings at the gurudwara but loses his hearing which leads to a traumatic end and leaves an aversion to music and a stammer for little Dilsher. Capernaum movie is permeated with common dilemmas, accompanied with some cultural details of the region it is set in. But without seeming stereotyped. It's a beautiful, honest, and important film on the socio-economic conditions of Lebanon by Nadine Labaki.
I am rating this movie 7/10. There are frightening moments and decent emotional scenes, but the overall experience of Velvet Buzzsaw movie is nothing more than what can be described as "just above average". I seriously believe that not telling more about the Vetril Dease’s spirit/ghost in the movie was a big mistake that pulled the film down a few notches.
