Maara (Tamil) – Amazon Prime Video – 8/10
Shraddha Srinath as Paaru and the charming Madhavan in the title role of a heroine centric movie.
Paaru is caught in the swirls of her childhood fairytale literally by a conch, when she sees the fable painted across the fishing village. She begins her chase of the ever elusive artist through the sketches of various characters who unveil Maara in colourful layers that blend yet stand apart.
There are times one is too caught up while at times you are left stranded as the film seems to ebb away.
The senior stars hold their own, each bringing much needed relief.
Though the visuals, graphics, music is bigger, brighter, louder (from the original Malayalam Charlie)…the rating falls short. The magic woven by Dulquer Salmaan and Parvathy is superlative!
Director Dhilip Kumar chose to elaborate on one facet of the story thus demystifying Charlie and bringing Maara closer within the realms of the viewer.
Comparisons are inevitable yet Maara is the wiser one with regrets and goals!
