The sole goal that Liger (Vijay Deverakonda) has in mind is to win the national MMA championship. In order for him to follow his ambition, he and his mother, Ramya Krishnan, move to Mumbai. He enrols in a mixed martial arts (MMA) program, but the plot takes an unexpected turn when a wealthy woman named Tanya cheats on him (Ananya Pandey). The rest of the narrative is about how a guy who was dumped by his girlfriend gets his life back on track and eventually wins an international MMA title.
Liger: Acting and Other Aspects
There is a possibility that Vijay Deverakonda’s lines, particularly as a result of the fact that he stutters, are inconsistent, but the actor unquestionably imbues his character with authenticity. Ananya Panday gives her performance her whole and utter attention at all times. One can’t help but get the impression that her character wasn’t developed nearly enough in the writing.
Even Mike Tyson’s first ever cameo in an Indian film couldn’t prevent this movie from being a complete and utter failure. He only makes a cameo appearance at the very end of the movie, and despite the fact that his small part is expertly handled, he fails to make an impact that sticks with the audience. Every one of his comedic scenes with Vijay Deverakonda is a joy to see in its entirety. Additionally, the mixed martial arts battle sequences are choreographed really effectively.
3 Major Reasons for Failure
- The plot of Liger is quite simplistic and does not resonate well with readers and viewers of today. In addition, neither the writing nor the direction are very inventive in any manner. The movie follows the typical structure of a sports drama while also including elements of commercial film making.
- The journey that Vijay took to the United States and the way that he rose to fame appear to be exaggerated. There is not even the slightest hint of an emotional connection in this movie, which is one of the many reasons why Liger is such a letdown.
- There are no high or memorable moments in the film, and the audience members who were hoping to witness Vijay Deverakonda play the role of a traditional impact hero were let down by the performance.
My Verdict and Rating for ‘Liger Movie’
The overall experience of seeing Liger does not measure up to the expectations that were set by the film’s trailer and the marketing leading up to its release. It is quite amusing because throughout the film, Liger is reminded on several occasions to concentrate, yet the writing itself does not demonstrate the same level of concentration. Things just keep happening with no apparent purpose, and as a result, Puri is unable to provide a resolution to any of the plot arcs that is satisfying to the audience. We, along with the actors, were hoping for a stronger performance. The phrase “watt laga diya” will come true, just as the filmmakers promised, but not in a positive way. Liger has a score of 6 out of 10 from me, and I recommend viewing it with zero or less expectations.
