With Laxmii Akshay Kumar brought another blockbuster this Diwali. Well, Laxmii is a Hindi version of Kanchana, a 2011 Tamil original film, by director Raghava Lawrence, who has been loyal to this genre in this film too.
The film’s story is based on the importance of acceptance and love for transgenders. Sharad Kelkar has played an excellent role as Laxmii, who in one of his scenes reminds us that the column of the third gender might have been included in the election forms but is still a taboo in the eyes of the society.
Being a movie freak, I have watched Kanchana, so there were hardly any surprises in the evoke horror with a rather predictable jump scare or laughter through slapsticks. But if you have not watched Kanchana your heart might skip a beat at a scene or two.
The film starts with Akshay Kumar (Asif) a Muslim lad married to a Hindu girl Kiara Advani (Rashmi), who are been invited by Rashmi’s mum (Ayesha Raza Mishra ) asking her runaway daughter to come home, to pacify her ‘Naaraaz Daddyiji’ (Sharma), and along goes the happy couple, expecting to be blessed, and taken into the fold.
However, after they reach the place, Asif, a firm believer that there is no such thing as ghosts, gets possessed by the spirit of Laxmii. Laxmii is a transgender who had worked hard to get recognition for the transgender community with her daughter Geeta. She is killed by a family of goons and now wants revenge from the ones who wronged her when she was alive. The rest of the film is what happens once Asif gets possessed.
My Take on Laxmii Movie
Let’s talk about the performances—Akshay Kumar is brilliant throughout the film; the actor hits the nail on the head with his body language when he is possessed by Laxmi, this performance surely deserves a special mention.
Kiara Advani looks gorgeous, loves her husband, and tries to reconcile with her father.
Sharad Kelkar steals away the real performance of the movie, delivers a power pact performance, and owns the show. To conclude, this Diwali Laxmii was a must watch with your friends and family.
