Kardeşim Benim Movie Review:
Kardeşim Benim (My Brother) is a refreshing, youthful and entertaining Turkish film. The film stars Burak Özçivit, Murat Boz and Aslı Enver in lead roles. Released in January – 2016 Kardeşim Benim is already the 2nd most successful Turkish movie this year. Mert Baykal’s direction is cool and Zafer Külünk‘s story is good enough to entertain you. Talking of the acting credentials of the cast Murat Boz and Burak Özçivit have done extremely well as “estranged” brothers.
Aslı Enver as Zeynep too is impressive throughout this comedy drama film. The locations are exotic and the countryside Turkey is charming. Murat Boz himself has sung for the movie and the songs as well as background music score is appealing.
Story-line of the film:
Now, let’s talk about the story of Kardeşim Benim film. Hakan (Burak Özçivit) and Ozan (Murat Boz ) are brothers both of whom are musicians, singer to be precise. Ozan, has made a name for himself in the Turkish Pop world and is a national star. While Hakan’s records have hardly done any business. They both don’t like each other and don’t want to see each other’s face. But, destiny has something else for them.
Due to the death of their father and his unique last wish Ozan and Hakan must travel to a faraway city to “sing together” like the old days they use to sing with their father. In the way they help an unfamiliar girl named Zeynep (Aslı Enver). Over the journey they become friends with each other. But, as the things were looking back to normal for the two brothers Ozan gets a shocking news. His pics are circulating in the media over the course of journey. And, he is threatened by his organizers that if he doesn’t turn up for the “concert” they will sue him.
Ozan decides to continue the journey despite of it. The twist in the journey comes when they find out that they have a “step sister”. Now, comes the real test of character and relationship for the brothers. Hakan decides to find out the truth while Ozan flies back to Istanbul for his concert after he learns that it was Zeynep (who by that time becomes Hakan’s love interest) who sent his pics to the media. Hakan too is disturb and feels cheated.
The film ends when the step sister Ayşe, needs urgent donor to recover from marrow cancer. Both the brothers come for help and one succeeds. Now, Ozan and Hakan again have a family as well as happiness as they once had.
My Verdict & Rating:
I rated this film 8/10. Kardeşim Benim is a bit different from ordinary Turkish movies. There is youthfulness in the film and the music is really cool. One good aspect was the film was its “unpredictability” the story although not too unique, but still keeps you interested all the way. So, my recommendation is to watch this film to get a taste of Turkish Cinema. I am sure you too will love this Turkish Delight… 🙂
