Where’d You Go, Bernadette is based on a novel of the same name by Maria Semple. The story is about a genius architect who stopped building because of a particular incident and how this affects her life and relationships. Cate Blanchett as Bernadette is absolutely delightful. Judy Greer as her daughter Bee does justice to her character from the book.
The film is a slightly condensed version of the book but you still abhor the character Elgie that Billy Crudup has played.
I would have loved to see more of Audrey. She and Soo Lin had good parts in the book that would have been interesting to see on screen but I understand they had a time limit to keep. I had enjoyed the book and loved the movie too.
The cinematography, the direction and dialogues are all beautiful. Visuals from Antarctica are breathtaking.
I feel you may get more out of the film if you have read the book but my husband who hasn’t read enjoyed it a lot anyway. Highly recommended if you like offbeat films.
