The Lost City is a 2022 American action-adventure comedy film directed by Aaron Nee and Adam Nee. The screenplay is done by Nee brothers alongwith Oren Uziel and Dana Fox from a story written by Seth Gordon. The film was released by Paramount Pictures in the United States on March 25, 2022. The Lost City received generally positive reviews from critics and the audience, who loved the performances of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, the chemistry between them, and the movie’s humor and adventure elements. One of the key highlights of the movie is Brad Pitt’s brief but impressive cameo. The Lost City also proved to be a big box office success for the makers, earning over $187 million worldwide against a budget of $68 million.
The Lost City Plot
The movie stars Sandra Bullock (playing Loretta Sage) as a reclusive romance novelist kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire Daniel Radcliffe (playing Abigail Fairfax), who believes she can lead him to an ancient city’s lost treasure in an island in the Atlantic Ocean. He wants Loretta to translate an old script that, according to him, holds the key to locating the legendary Crown of Fire belonging to the ancient king Kalaman. Channing Tatum (as Alan Caprison) co-stars as the novelist’s cover model, who sets out to rescue her after learning of her kidnap. He enlists a former Navy SAEL and a CIA operative, Jack Trainer (played by Brad Pitt).
The delightful on-screen chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum is an appealing aspect of this movie. Tatum’s stupidity and Bullock’s over seriousness creates some fantastic moments in the movie. The pair’s impeccable comedic timing and effortless rapport are also worth watching. Their witty exchanges are amusing and endearing, adding an extra layer of excitement to The Lost City’s thrilling action sequences.
The film is full of subtle humor from the start till the end. It is full of laughter moments, but it never takes itself too seriously to become boring. The jokes are clever and well-timed, and they help keep the movie moving briskly.
Of course, an action-adventure movie is only complete with some adventure. The Lost City delivers plenty of adventure and excitement. The film also features breathtaking views of the jungle and beaches in the Atlantic Ocean. It was primarily shot in the Dominican Republic, and the country’s beautiful scenery is one of the film’s many highlights. I just loved the scenes where Jim and Loretta run away from the kidnappers and discover the beautiful lush green mountains of the island. The filmmakers took advantage of the country’s lush rainforests, white-sand beaches, and crystal-clear waters to create a visually appealing movie that will take your breath away if you watch it in FULL HD.
My Final Words About The Movie
In my opinion, The Lost City is a good and entertaining movie that is worth your time. Many reviewers have compared it to the 1985 “Romancing The Stone” movie. Since I haven’t watched that movie, I am not qualified to comment on this comparison. All I can tell is if you’re looking for an adventure-filled lighthearted movie with visually appealing locations and some of Hollywood’s most beloved actors. In that case, I highly recommend checking it out on Amazon Prime Video. I hope you enjoyed my review of the movie on The World of Movies! It is public that The Lost City will be available on Netflix from 25th August 2023.
Here are three fun facts about The Lost City movie:
- The film was initially titled “The Lost City of D.”
- Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum had to undergo extensive training for the film’s action sequences.
- In the film, Brad Pitt has a cameo as a Navy Seal who helps Bullock and Tatum escape from the jungle. This is the first time Pitt and Bullock have shared the screen together, despite being industry stalwarts for over 3 decades.
I am giving The Lost City an 8 out of 10!
