Amidst confusing reviews and recommendations, we decided to go ahead and watch Kalki today on the big screen. This movie is one of a kind attempt to blend Indian mythology with the dystopian society which is being foreseen in the future, 2898 AD, to be precise.

All religions predict that the world will come to an end and very soon, God will reincarnate to put an end to all evil. According to the Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu will be reborn as Kalki to end the suffering of the world once and for all in the current era, the KaliYug.
The movie borrows heavily from the Star Wars theme, there is the evil general, there is a rebel Alliance, a child bearer, trusted warriors of the “Force”, in this particular case, “the divine force”. The Dark Lord is responsible for the predicament the world is currently in, he and his followers will do anything to stop the birth of the divine Power. And so the war begins, good Vs evil.
Other than Star Wars, movies like Dune and Rebel Moon all have a similar setting with soldiers dressed in armors and masks and traveling in space ships from one place to another. The fights are usually with laser guns and lightsabers. This movie is made on similar lines.

And for once, I find myself aligning with the verdict happily. I am a huge fan of mythology, fantasy, and science fiction. This movie effortlessly blends all the three genres. I love Mahabharata and I love Star Wars. So this movie was a lot of fun.
The actors are all given larger than life roles and they all have delivered spectacular performances. The combat scenes between Amitabh Bacchan and Prabhas are splendid. The visual effects and action sequences are jaw dropping, nothing less than any Hollywood science fiction movie.
If you try to analyze the plot, it will lead you nowhere. I didn’t question when Thanos destroyed the world and Avengers got it back, nor when the Alliance brought down the mighty Galactic empire. So it’s only fair I don’t get into plot loopholes with the Kalki 2898 AD movie.
I am going with a full 10/10 for this film. Forget the plot, go with the flow. Go to the movie theater, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. Especially if you are a STAR WARS fan, you will enjoy this movie thoroughly.
Is Kalki 2898 AD appropriate for kids? We went with our boys and they loved the movie, especially the second half. The first half does contain some disturbing content, so if you have sensitive kids, you might want to check the plot online before you go. Interestingly, the movie hall was filled with children and they all seemed to enjoy the movie thoroughly.
