What is ‘The Witcher Season 3’ all about?
The Witcher Season 3 continues the journey of Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer as the Continent becomes even more dangerous and politically unstable. Kingdoms are forming alliances and breaking them just as quickly. Everyone seems to be after Ciri now. This season also carries extra weight because it marks the final appearance of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. And that emotional layer is felt throughout.
Is The Witcher Season 3 the best season after Season 1? The answer might surprise you.
The Review
This was a HIT. No doubt about that.
It is right up there with Season 2 in terms of engagement. At no point did it feel boring or stretched. The pacing is actually quite good here. Story keeps moving, and you stay invested. Season 1 is still special. That first season set the tone for everything. I don’t think any season has matched that level yet. But Season 3 comes close in terms of impact.
Also, the politics this time is actually interesting. Alliances keep shifting. You see characters changing sides. It keeps things unpredictable. Not confusing exactly, but yes, a bit non-linear at times. Still, it works.
Henry Cavill as Geralt
Henry Cavill was just perfect here.
This felt like a proper send-off. He does what Geralt is supposed to do. Fight monsters. Protect Ciri. Stay grounded even when everything around him is falling apart. The emotional connect is very strong in this season. Especially his father-like instincts towards Ciri. Those moments hit. They actually feel real.
Is this his best season? Maybe not. Season 1 will always be special because that is where we first saw him as Geralt. But still, this is easily one of his strongest performances.
Memorable Scenes in Season 3
There are quite a few standout moments in this season.
- The maze sequence where a monster chases Ciri is intense. You feel the tension building there. It keeps you on edge. That whole sequence is very well executed.
2. The Chimera fight is another big highlight. Pure action. This is where Geralt looks unstoppable. The choreography feels tight and satisfying.
3. Ciri’s encounter with the Wild Hunt. That scene is something else. Honestly, goosebumps. The visuals, the music, everything comes together perfectly.
4. Then comes the Thanedd Coup. Chaos everywhere. Multiple fights happening at once. It actually reminded me a bit of the Season 2 finale in terms of scale and intensity.
In addition to the above mentioned ones, there are several emotional moments too. The scenes where Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer spend time together. It feels like a family. Simple scenes, but they work. And then the deaths. Tissaia’s death hits hard. King Vizimir’s death also adds weight to the political side of the story. Also, Triss coming back and supporting Geralt. That was a nice touch. Adds more depth to her character.
Technical Aspects
The technical side remains strong. Music is top notch. It has been consistent since Season 1 and continues here. Action scenes are really well done. Clean, impactful, and not overdone. Visuals look great. New monsters look impressive. Those monolith structures are interesting to watch. Adds something different visually.
What Works & What Doesn’t
What Works:
- Strong pacing throughout
- Excellent performance by Henry Cavill
- Engaging political storyline
- High-quality action and visuals
- Emotional connection between main characters
What Doesn’t:
- Slightly non-linear storytelling may confuse some viewers
- Still does not reach the magic of Season 1
My Personal Take
This felt like the last true Witcher season. Henry Cavill gave it everything. You can see that. You can feel that. And yes, that reveal about Vilgefortz. I honestly thought Stregobor was the shady one. But Vilgefortz turned out to be something else entirely. That twist worked really well.
Something definitely changes after this season. You know it will not be the same going forward. We are going to miss Henry Cavill.
My Rating & Verdict
I am giving The Witcher Season 3 a 9 out of 10. This is a strong season. Engaging, emotional, and packed with great moments. It delivers what fans expect.
Final Verdict
If you are a fan of The Witcher, this season is a must-watch. It is not just another season. It feels like an ending of an era. And honestly, it shows how important Henry Cavill was for this series. Going forward, things will be different. Whether that works or not, we will have to see.
