Two Explanations of Stree Movie’s Climax

Earlier this month, I watched “Stree” movie. The film stars Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, and Aparshakti Khurana in lead roles. It is based on an urban legend of “Nale Ba”, which was so far little known to most people of our country. Here, I will make an attempt to understand the meaning of “end/climax” of Stree movie.

After a keen analysis of all the aspects of the film, I believe there can be two possible explanations of Stree movie’s climax. One, Shraddha Kapoor is not “Stree”; second, she is “Stree”. Sounds confusing, huh? Well let’s delve deeper into these explanations.

Scenario one: Shradhha Kapoor is not Stree

It seems the most likely conclusion as we clearly see that she helps Rajkummar Rao and his friends to get rid of Stree because she herself has lost someone special to the evil spirit. The reason why this may be true is the fact that she asks Rajkummar to bring some weird items (supposedly for Black Magic) and through this, she gets those supernatural powers to face the evil spirit. However, she can’t defeat the evil spirit of her own. Therefore, she decides to work as a team with Rajkummar, Aparshakti and Pankaj Tripathi to defeat and destroy the evil spirit.

We also see that at one point of time Shraddha gives dagger to Rajkummar and asks to spear it through spirit’s heart. This clearly shows that Shraddha is not Stree, otherwise why would she kill herself? Now, you must be thinking, if she wasn’t the spirit then why she disappears in the last scene after adding Stree’s chhoti to her’s? I can’t say for sure, but the reason may be that she now has the powers of the spirit and she wants to use it for some “aim” that we may get to know in the movie’s scheduled sequel announced recently by the team.

If you accept this theory, then who was the spirit that comes in the last part and leaves  Chanderi town after reading the message, “O Stree Raksha Karna”? The answer is very simple, she is the same spirit whom Shraddha and team defeated but not killed. Yes, she is alive, as a ghost, of course. She lost her powers but was not killed during that night.

Scenario Two: Shraddha Kapoor is Stree

This theory is purely based on assumptions and some loopholes in the movie’s script. First, Stree is not a single spirit, it is a name given to such spirits. So, if we say Shraddha is Stree that doesn’t mean that she is the Stree of Chanderi town. There is a possibility that she belongs to some other village or town, but came to Chanderi to become powerful for accomplishing something that requires too  much supernatural power.

Now, let’s see why I am saying this. In the movie, Shraddha never enters any sacred place (temple); she also didn’t tell her name and instead says to Rajkummar – I will come whenever you will think of me –  this shows she isn’t human. But the most interesting thing is that she only becomes visible to everyone after doing some “black magic” in the jungle. If you notice, during first few visits she is only visible to Rajkummar. However, later everyone is able to see and talk to her, but it happens only after performing some black magic.

I strongly believe that Sharaddha did a black magic that allowed her to take human form and be visible to everyone. She also took 12 pages of the book that was written by Vijay Razz on Stree and explained how to defeat her. She studied it and found out that Rajkummar is the one who can help her to defeat and get Stree’s power. As she had no grudge against Chanderi, she didn’t bother its people.

There can be more views on Stree movie climax, and the truth will come out in the sequel. Till then, we will need to be content with these theories only!

Guffaw, Chortle or Scream in terror! Funny or frightened, almost pee your pants either way.

No one told Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana and Abhishek Banerjee that it’s a horror movie. The trio are clever, witty and the accent of their attempt at Hinglish keeps you in splits. The friends are in awe of not just girls, they know their designers and music too. They try to be ‘Madrone’ and debunk the myth of bhoot, pret and chudails only to be dragged into it feet first, no pun!

The witch hunt is lifted from multiple plots yet keeps you hooked. Pankaj Tripathi cracks you up as the keeper of the town secrets and books. Glamorous Shraddha Kapoor looks out of place in the small town, but you can’t decide if she is the hunted or hunter and all you want at the end of the movie is to know her name. Which you will surely watch the sequel to learn.

It’s bold to make a movie on the age old beliefs of ghosts and making you laugh is just acing it. The four songs barely interrupt the story-line but after showing a sleazy item number, the burst of feminism in the second half doesn’t gel. The man hungry spirit takes away men but doesn’t harm them. You almost want to tell the ghost to go ahead and seek her revenge or guide her how to. The story weakens though and you want to know if the spirit wants love, respect, revenge or sex.

It’s so clichéd to show the spirit looking haggard, skeletons and scary..a pretty flying ghost with sparkles would have done the trick like in another movie where she rises from the past in Urban India.

The temple, historical town, cobbled streets and the ruins of Chanderi makes you want to mark it for your next holiday. Chanderi is mesmerizing!  Stree..a movie not to be missed, especially if you like to lol and be spooked too!
