Bewakoofiyaan Movie Review:

Every now and then we come across a movie that is not very successful and yet it proves a good stuff to watch. Bewakoofiyaan is one such movie that is not a “commercial hit” neither it was appreciated by masses. But, I found it very good as well as “close to life” movie. Bewakoofiyaan is a modern Indian film that tells about the complex lifestyle of our youth living in big cities and the ups and downs they through it. Mohit (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Mayera (Sonam Kapoor) are in love with each other and they are planning to get married. The only issue is Mayera’s father Mr.V.K. Sehgal ( A High Ranking Government Official). Mohit is expecting a good promotion at job and Mayera asks him to talk to her father about their marriage. One day they go to a picnic where Mohit tells V.K.Sehgal (Rishi Kapoor) that he loves Mayera.

Mr.Sehgal gets angry and soon leave the place with his daughter. Later he tells her daughter that he will not let her marry that “middle class” guy. Mayera also tells him that she will not marry anyone except Mohit.

Now, Mr. Sehgal visits Mohit at his office and gives him an ultimatum whereby he will check his “eligibility” for her daughter and if, Mohit fails in this test he will have to forget Mayera forever. Meanwhile, after getting promoted just a few days ago Mohit loses his job as his company goes through a crisis and fires many employees as part of the austerity measures. Now, Mohit faces a dilemma to pretend to Mr. Sehgal that he is not fired and still works at his office. On the other hand, he also has to help his would-be father-in-law to get a new job (as he is retired from his Govt job and wants to do something for earning money as well as passing his time). Amidst all this Mohit is unable to get a new job and soon ran out of money (as during his hay days he didn’t manage his expenses well and had no substantial savings too). He asks help from Mayera for his expenses and installments. She gladly comes to his rescue and everything is going on track except that Mohit is losing his patience as well as confidence every day he goes through without a job. As a result, after some time their relationship gets strained as Mohit and Mayera get into an argument over his joblessness. After this, they decide to call it off and Mohit sells his car to return Mayera’s money. Mayera leaves for Dubai while Mohit takes up a small job at a cafe. Mr. Sehgal gets hurt seeing this as in his heart he has accepted Mohit as his son-in-law. The climax of Bewakoofiyaan involves how V.K. Sehgal again gets Mayera and Mohit together. While doing so he himself gets a job as a CEO in a company.

My Rating & Verdict of Bewakoofiyaan:

I rated Bewakoofiyaan 9 out of 10, this film has everything a movie lover would love to watch. The only thing that wasn’t good about this film or at least that I didn’t love was its songs. They are okay to listen but not something to remember forever. Bewakoofiyaan is a movie that is very close to today’s reality. It’s a funny romantic drama with some good acting by Rishi Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Kapoor. One a boring weekend Bewakoofiyaan is a perfect Bollywood Masala Film to watch. So, add it to your watchlist and see whenever you want to…!

Last Knights Movie Review:

Kazuaki Kiriya may  not have directed a “great” film till now, but still Last Knights in my view is an entertaining one. Last Knights boasts a long list of promising actors from different countries. It has a good, if not the  best plot for a Medieval History based movie. The background score is fine, not something I will talk about specifically as I normally do. Last Knight has twists and turns that are just enough to make you feel good about it. Talking about the “Critical Appreciation”, I think Last Knights is very harshly dealt by the critics all over the world. This movie is not bad as its ratings are by the critics. I have seen far worse movies than this and they have decent ratings too from the critics.

Anyways, let’s talk about the storyline of Last Knights. This film is nothing but a story of HONOR, first lost and then regained. Talking of honor as “everything” in this age may sound little absurd, but there was indeed a time when honor was a very valuable thing for people. Commander Raiden (Clive Owen) loses his master Lord Bartok (Morgan Freeman). Actually, Raiden himself has to behead his master (This is something you guys need to find out why?). After it, on the orders of the Emperor (Peyman Moaadi), the Bartok lands are being confiscated by the empire and Raiden alongside many Bartok clan people has to leave his home. All this happened because of a greedy minister Geeza Mott (Aksel Hennie) who wanted to make himself rich by asking bribes from all the vassal states of the empire which Lord Bartok opposed public for which he had to pay a heavy price.

The movie moves forward when Gizza Mott becomes obsessed with Raiden, that he is not going to sit idle and will take his vengeance. For over a year he follows Raiden and his fellow legionnaires, but after getting no indication of him planning an attack decides to leave this issue. In the meantime, Gizza Mott has fortified his palace with more security than even the emperor himself.

Now, comes an interesting twist in the plot when it is revealed that for over a year Raiden and his followers are actually acting to “deceive” Gizza Mott and his men knowing that they are being watched every second throughout the day. And, now when they have finally outwitted their enemy. It is time to launch an offensive, I am not revealing its details as it is something very interesting and to me the “USP” of Last Knights. After a gruesome battle at the palace of Gizza Mott who has now become the first council to the emperor commander Raiden kills him. After this Raiden surrenders himself to the Emperor. When the Emperor (after consulting the nobility) declares Bartok rebels as National Heroes but announces that the act of violence against the first council is similar to the attack against the Emperor himself and, therefore, the leader i.e. Commander Raiden must be put to death. The movie ends with Raiden on his knees ready for his punishment of getting behead and suddenly there is a flashback….

My Verdict & Rating of Last Knights:

I gave this film 7 out of 10 only. The reason is that if Last Knights had to become an epic it must have been much longer than what it is. Everything is done very well, but then suddenly you feel that it could have been done in a more detailed manner, especially the later part of the story. One more thing was not very convincing about Last Knights was its music and background score that wasn’t great as I always expect from a Medieval History theme-based film. But, in any manner, this is not a “bad movie” at all as many of the leading movie critics want us to believe. I strongly recommend it to every history genre movie lover and I am dead sure you all will love it. It has its own share of twists and turns, although I agree that story is not that strong. The last thing I want to mention especially for the History Lovers is that this movie has nothing to do with history. Last Knights is purely a work of fiction, so don’t relate it to anything in history just watch it and enjoy it.

Movie: Liar Liar

Year: 1997

Country of Origin: USA

Language: English

Genre: Comedy, Fantasy

Liar Liar Movie Review:

Liar Liar is a wonderfully written and equally well-directed movie. Jim Carrey delivers a noteworthy performance in Liar Liar. This film is full of comedy and some great to watch acting by nearly all the actors. Fletcher and Audrey are a separated couple with a 5-year-old son named Max. Although, Fletcher loves his son too much, but because of his busy schedule (as he is a famous lawyer) he is being unable to spend quality time with his son. Max, knows that his dad is a “Liar” (as Fletcher very often lies, something very much associated with his profession) and that he never keeps his promise. He is so much hurt about this fact that he actually wishes to God that “for whole one day his dad couldn’t lie”, on the eve of his birthday when Fletcher instead of being with him is busy somewhere else. To the misfortune of Fletcher, this wish of his son comes true when he is about to fight a “career changing” case of his life.

Here, starts the real drama of the film and I am not going to ruin it for you guys by explaining details of it. As it will be really fantastic for you all to watch some hilarious and mind-boggling stuff on-screen. The main plot of the movie revolves around that “ONE DAY” where despite trying his level best, Fletcher is not able to lie to anyone, including his long time secretary Greta.

Everything seems lost for him, but through his wit and luck he wins that case. After that he runs immediately to the airport to see his son (as Max is going to another place with his mother) and say sorry to him for all those days he lied to him and neglected promises made to him. Finally, Audrey too understands that Fletcher is not lying this time and the family once again is back together enjoying life. Liar Liar ends when Max is celebrating his next birthday and this time Fletcher himself asking him to make a wish…

My Verdict & Rating of the film:

I have rated Liar Liar 9/10, as there’s no reason for it to deserve anything less than this. Throughout the film I really laughed too much especially seeing Jim doing what he does best i.e. making all sort of funny postures, faces and making some hilarious gestures. Liar Liar is a delightful film for all Jim Carrey lovers. I would highly recommend Liar Liar to anyone and everyone who loves comedy.

Movie: Michiel de Ruyter

English Title: Admiral

Year: 2015

Country of Origin: Netherlands

Language: Dutch (Mainly), English, French (Few Dialogues Only)

Genre: Drama, History, Biography, Action

Michiel de Ruyter Movie Review:

Directed by  Roel Reiné Michiel de Ruyter is a fantastic and very truth based history drama movie that appeals to your senses. The visual effects and background score are exceptionally good. And the most important thing about Michiel de Ruyter is its story. From the start till the last scene of the film you will feel like immersed in this biopic drama.

Michiel de Ruyter
                         Michiel de Ruyter Movie Still

Michiel de Ruyter is based on the famous 17th century Dutch admiral named Michiel Adriaenszoon de Ruyter. The movie also tells the strong role that the then Grand Pensionary (Equivalent to Prime Minister) Johan de Witt played in the politics of the young Dutch Republic. One of the best things of Michiel de Ruyter Movie is its historical accuracy. I personally read about the politics and the history of that time and found this film very much according to the historical records.

Michiel de Ruyter Movie Story:

It’s early 17th century and the Dutch Republic is still in early stage of its establishment. The Dutch merchant ships are getting constant trouble by the Britishers and the French too are not very friendly towards the Dutch. The country from inside is divided into “Orangists” and “Republicans”. After a tough tussle of power Republicans gets a hold on the politics

and they appoint Johan de Witt as their Prime Minister. Johan is a good politicians who wants his country to be united and self-dependent. But he can’t do that alone, here comes our HERO of the movie, Michiel de Ruyter. After so much insistence by Johan de Witt Michiel de Ruyter agrees to accept the post of ADMIRAL and subsequently gets Johan to accept his proposal of modernizing the Dutch Navy Fleet. He then defeats the British and French fleets in tough sea battles. He even carries out an unexpected raid at Chatham in England on the orders of Johan de Witt. Everything seems good after this feat by the Dutch and English are on the negotiation table, but the Orangists under the shrewd Johan Kievit nurtures a plan to stop Republicans from becoming more powerful and popular. While the Michiel de Ruyter Under false allegations of treason  Cornelis de Witt (Johan de Witt’s brother) is arrested and brutally tortured. When Johan de Witt comes to visit his brother in the prison a large and violent “organized” mob assassinates the de Witt brothers and brutally mutilates their bodies. Michiel de Ruyter sees this and is shocked as well as angry with himself that he couldn’t reach on time.

Michiel de Ruyter
                        Michiel de Ruyter Movie Still

The whole country is in turmoil and on the verge of a Civil War when the French invades from the South seizing territories from the Dutch. The Prince of Orange, William – III  keeps his belief in Michiel de Ruyter and gives him the responsibility of fighting the French. Michieal de Ruyter, this time with Cornelis Tromp (whom he had dismissed from the post of Vice-Admiral) again saves his country and people. After returning from this battle he resigns from the post of Admiral, but the Prince of Orange (William – III) sends him for one last mission to the Mediterranean sea. This time Michiel de Ruyter is not successful and with a relatively inferior navy fleet gets defeated. He also dies in his ship when a cannon ball struck one of his legs. In the end he has been shown given a state funeral while the Prince of Orange saying, “now the Orangists and Republicans are all together for one man’s funeral. I couldn’t have done it”….

My Verdict & Rating of The Movie:

I rated Michiel de Ruyter a flat 10 on 10, there’s hardly anything missing in this film. It has action, drama, adventure, great acting, superb music, and some breath-taking dialogues on nationalism. Above all, there is truth in the film that we all expect from a biopic movie. I would recommend it to everyone who loves cinema and likes to know a little bit of history of other nations National Heroes. I am sure throughout 150 mins you will never feel a dull moment in Michiel de Ruyter. I am embedding the whole Soundtrack of this movie below. This is one of the best soundtracks of all time that I have listened to.
