Movie: Aşk Geliyorum Demez

Year: 2009

Country of Origin: Turkey

Language: Turkish

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Drama

Rating: 5.2/10 (IMDB)

My Review of Aşk Geliyorum Demez:

The movie takes place in the busy part of Istanbul i.e. Mahmutpasa and portrays the cosmopolitan culture and society of Istanbul. The character of Uncle Miran (Altan Erkekli) is an Armenian Christian and there is also a Kurd character. Despite of their racial and cultural differences all the shop owners and workers live a happy life together helping each other whenever the need arises. The music touches the heart and lyrics of all songs are very good. The character of Ali (Tolgahan Sayisman) in most part of the film is funny and careless but after the death of uncle Miran he becomes a man of truth and decides to tell the truth about himself to Gozde (Berguzar Korel). The screenplay and camera work is good. The story is too simple and easy to understand. Although it can also be said there is not so much story at all in the movie but still you like it as it never feels boring throughout the movie. The movie also doesn’t feature any unnecessary “sex or steamy scenes” that are very common in Turkish cinema. It is a plain Love Story. In the end it can be said its worth watching. For me the music was the main element of the film. The filming locations are also good where you can feel the excitement of Istanbul. All the characters have acted well, but it can be said that there are some unnecessary characters in the movie. Anyways, in a comedy lot’s of characters are very usual in any cinema.

My favorite Characters of Aşk Geliyorum Demez:

Tolgahan Sayisman as Ali: He has played his role with perfection a little funny, idiotic, but always engaging.

Berguzar Korel as Gozde: She has spread the charm of her beauty on-screen as she often off-screen. In most part of the movie she is serious and happy girl looking to get “true love” in her life.

My Rating of Aşk Geliyorum Demez:

I have rated this movie 9/10 as I found the story ordinary, but still good enough to behold you. The Music is the best element of the movie and reaches your heart. The shooting locations are beautiful and captivating and makes you feel good watching this movie.

My Verdict of Aşk Geliyorum Demez:

If you are looking to watch some lighthearted comedy themed love story then this will appeal you. Something ordinary but “engaging”…..The songs are beautiful and I am sure you will fall in love with them.

The Age of Adaline Movie Review:

The Age of Adaline has a wonderful story, great camera work and screenplay. From the start to the last scene of the movie you feel engrossed in it. I will not talk about the scientific reason or explanation of what happened to “Adaline Bowman”, as it is futile. All I can say and write about The Age of Adaline is that it is a well-directed film and all the characters have done full justice to their roles. You won’t find anyone without a “purpose” in the movie. Such is the way Lee Toland Krieger has directed The Age of Adaline.

The story revolves around “Blake Lively” but it is well supported by all the characters in the movie. I give full credit to the director for choosing Blake and Michiel as lead characters. Harrison Ford has been at his best as he normally is in every movie. Now talking about the story line, The Age of Adaline is a story of a young woman named “Adaline Bowman” who because of an accident in 1935, at the age of 29 develops a phenomenon in her genes due to which she “stops ageing”…. Well talking of age you would feel “anyone in this world would love to stop ageing and being young forever, especially women”. But, here comes our “Adaline Bowman” a beautiful woman (by every stretch of imagination possible). It is said of her “All these years she’s lived, but she’s never had a life…” rightly so after enjoying her “forever young” fate she gets to a position in life where she thinks of “stop running” from life.

She saw her husband, family, dogs, friends die and the world change year after year….. But, what happened to her life? She was as it is as she was. She had to run from this cruel world for her safety, she even abandoned her daughter to live in pace. All these measures proves futile as finally she falls in love with a young man (Michiel Huisman), who turns out to be the son of a man (Harrison Ford) whom she loved some 4 decades back.. And left because of her inability to fulfill that relationship. One can truly feel the pain of Adaline… I loved the music of the movie it is awesome and actually gives  meaning to the movie.

Characters to watch out in The Age of Adaline:

Blake Lively: Up until yesterday I had no knowledge of who this girl is? But, I fell in love with her acting “prowess” the very first time I saw her on screen…She has literally lived through the ages on the screen in this movie. She looked good in 1920s, 30s, 40s …and so on till 2014 when the movie ends. I would give her 10/10 for acting as well as looks with all those emotions and her “trade mark” smile she is the “life” of “The Age of Adaline”.

Harrison Ford: His role can be seen as “defining cameo” in the movie. Mr. Ford has given his everything in those scenes as he could have. His expressions are awesome and so does his acting as you would expect from him. It was his role that gave the movie finishing touch…

My Rating & Verdict of The Age of Adaline:

I gave a 9 out of 10 to The Age of Adaline. Mainly because of its music and story line. The acting too is superb. At some moment or other you will feel yourself at “Adaline’s place and wonder what would you have lived through had it happen to you?” Overall this movie deserves a 9. If you like romantic movies and you believe love is powerful, it’s a movie you must watch. The Age of Adaline portrays the love in various forms and ways. You will certainly enjoy it.

Jinn – Movie Review

Jinn Movie Review:

Well with all due respect to the director for his “novel” effort to introduce the concept of “Jinn” to the Western and European audience. In my view the “Jinn/Djinn” proved to be a very below par movie. The reason for this is that the story-line is really very weak and the plot too is really not interesting at all. The movie literally goes nowhere with the script. I also have reservations regarding if the concept of “Jinn” is really explained in a proper way or not. I am a Muslim by birth and I have not read or heard anywhere anything like this what is shown in the movie. Although, Jinns live with us in this world without letting us know about it, but there is nothing as such that there is a group of Jinns who wants to rule the world. So, as such there is a flaw in story-line anyways it’s a thriller cum horror movie so no one expects reality in it. But, still the director must have done a bit more research on this subject. Now coming on to the technical aspects of this movie. Besides, that this movie has a star cast who are not very famous it also lag “special effects”. The fighting scenes are really very poorly constructed and it don’t give a feel of a 21st century movie. From acting point of view too this movie doesn’t offer much to its audience. Dominic Rains is the lead character and he is really “pathetic” if not less. Serinda Swan is beautiful and that’s it…there’s nothing in her role too that can appeal you. Faran Tahir and Ray Park are looking as if they are “overacting”. The music/background score of the movie too is not so appealing. Overall, I am of the view that Mr. Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad needs to work a lot if he is “ever” thinking of making a sequel of this movie.

My Rating of Jinn Movie:

I have given 4 out of 10 to this Jinn movie mainly because I didn’t like any element of the movie. The plot, music, acting, special effects etc. all are below par from an average Hollywood flick. To be frank I had high hopes from this movie, but all I end up with is lots of disappointment.

My Verdict of Jinn Movie:

If you have nothing to see at home on a day only then see Jinn Movie that too without any expectations. There is every chance that you might stop seeing the film in the first hour itself. But if you really want to know about the “Jinns” then please read some authentic Islamic Sources they will give you a better picture than this movie.

Welcome To Karachi – Movie Review

Rating:

4.5/10 – IMDb

Welcome To Karachi Review:

Before writing anything about the movie, I would love to emphasize the fact that it is a “Political Satire“. However, it may not be the best of “Political Satires” that we have seen till now. But, keeping in mind the films that have hit the screens this year so far, it is definitely one of the best till date. Now coming to the film, it can be said conspicuously that it is has a totally “illogical” story-line. But, as this is a comedy what else would you expect? The ending of Welcome To Karachi is really very “unsatisfying”. One would have been wondering actually what happened to “Shami and Kedar”? The visual effects of this movie are just “okay” there’s nothing to tell about it. The music is fine although not too great. The main “USP” of the movie is its cast. Be it Arshad Warsi, Jackky Bhagnani, Lauren Gottlieb, Adnan Shah, or Ayub Khoso. All the characters have played their role very well. Even, the small characters too have given awesome performance. Among the scenes that I like the most is the one that happened outside the Indian Consulate Office in Karachi. It may be an exaggerated scene with no reason and logic but, it conveys a very clear message in the form of “stupidity” that how today’s “International Relations” are going on. Every country is jealous of its rival and want to “eliminate” it. The move also sheds a light on “American” involvement on Pakistan’s land and how things are manipulated. The truth is not always what we see, it differs from person to person. I am happy to see that this movie doesn’t promote any “ultra nationalism” or “hatred”. The director has dealt well with a weak but, comic story-line. For me Arshad Warsi was the one who really carries the movie along on his shoulders. Arshad is well-known for his ‘comic” roles in Bollywood and once again he delivered it well in “Welcome To Karachi”.

My Rating of Welcome To Karachi:

I have rated the movie 9 out of 10 mainly because of its small but powerful punches of “dark political satire” and some awesome acting by the cast. With just over 2 hours this is a wonderful comedy film to relieve your mind of all the tensions you may have.

My Verdict of Welcome To Karachi:

If you like some “lighthearted” cinema that make no sense. But, gives you entertainment and lot’s of funny moments to laugh about then go for this. I bet you will not be disappointed. Just forget the “logic part” and enjoy the movie…! Anyways there’s very little logic in India and Pakistan relations!
